Brebes, 20 August 2025 — Square Resources Holdings Singapore Pte Ltd. is supporting Indonesia Indah Foundation (IIF) to strengthen the coastline of Pandansari, Kaliwlingi Village, in Brebes, Central Java. The institutions are planting 50,000 mangrove trees on Indonesian Independence Day 2025. The planting is part of a 3-year commitment to plant 150,000 mangrove seedlings in Kaliwlingi Village to protect coastlines and equip locals with education on sustainability and eco-tourism.
Since 1963, the coast of Pandansari, Kaliwlingi Village, has been confronted by the issues of coastal abrasion and erosion. Pandansari, which is among the areas that are experiencing severe abrasion in the Brebes Regency, has reached extreme levels of abrasion, resulting in the complete erosion of 800 hectares of productive land by seawater.
The potential prevention measure is to plant or reforest mangrove trees along the coastline. The abrasion had a significant effect on the residents of Kaliwlingi, who were confronted with rising sea levels and the disappearance of aquaculture production land.
Over the course of three years, the objective of the mangrove planting program run by IIF, together with local planters KMPHP Mangrovesari, is to slowly but surely equip these coastal villages with the same habitat and marine ecosystem that had previously thrived in this region.
“Thank you Indonesia Indah Foundation and Square Resources, the mangrove planting plan—totaling 25 hectares over five years, will become a reality. The mangrove forest will expand, and the flora and fauna will be greatly benefited by the additional green space. The annual support from IIF and Square gives us greater encouragement in facing the uncertainties of natural conditions,” said Rusjan, Chairman of the Coastal Forest Conservation Community Group (KMPHP Mangrovesari).
The Saya Pahlawan Lingkungan (I’m an Environmental Hero) education program of IIF provided environmental sustainability education to both local schoolchildren and teachers in national schools in the area in 2023. Eco-tourism guidelines were provided to local villagers as a means of empowerment to safeguard the coastline and newly planted forests for decades to come.
Since 2019, Square Resources Holding Singapore Pte Ltd. has been providing support to IIF’s activities through the Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. Prior to becoming an official Foundation Partner in 2020, the company had begun to support Hari Bersih Indonesia (HBI). Hari Bersih Indonesia, organised by IIF every year, is an annual national-scale clean-up day to highlight the issue of littering and plastic waste in Indonesia.
Kevin Kanamori, CEO of Square Resources Holding Singapore Pte Ltd. commented with enthusiasm, “This mangrove planting initiative reflects our commitment to long-term sustainability in Indonesia. At Square Resources, we believe in giving back to the land and communities where we are involved in business, while remaining conscious of our responsibility to the environment. Through our partnership with Indonesia Indah Foundation, we are proud to contribute to safeguarding Brebes’s future while creating lasting value for generations to come.”
Square Resources Holding Singapore Pte Ltd. commenced the first phase of the 150,000 mangrove seedlings planting plan in 2023, conducted under IIF’s A Tree for Life program. In 2022, the company also participated in the planting of 10,000 mangrove seedlings in Pandansari, Kaliwlingi village, Brebes, Central Java. The Company aims to plant 160,000 trees by the year 2025.
Angela Jelita Richardson, Co-Founder of Indonesia Indah Foundation, expressed her gratitude for the partnership. “We have reached the end of our 3-year plan to plant mangrove trees this year. Square Resources’ dedication to supporting the people and environment in Brebes Regency is greatly appreciated. The company’s commitment is fully aligned with our objective of creating a sustainable future for Indonesia. Our aim is to create a positive impact that will have a long-lasting effect on future generations,” said Angela.
