Yogyakarta, 24 August 2024 — Indonesia Indah Foundation (IIF) is adding a new education program called Little Care, to improve environmental education and the welfare of children from low-income families in rural areas of Yogyakarta, Central Java.
Originally founded and run by Ibu Indah Richardson, Little Care started off as a small family-run foundation in 1998, with an initial mission to offer comprehensive educational programs, with a focus on English, health, and culture.
Little Care has been helping the communities in Yogyakarta through major natural events, such as the earthquake in 2006, where the foundation established six Children’s Centers in the severely affected areas in south of Yogyakarta. In 2010, when Yogyakarta was hit by the Merapi Volcano eruption, Little Care supported emergency response efforts by distributing aid and caring for displaced children in temporary shelters.
Little Care has three (3) Children’s Creative Rooms with libraries, where it teaches English to children of low-income families. This initiative blossomed into teaching about computers, etiquette, cooking, and self confidence through MCing, dancing, singing, and even drama.
This year, Indonesia Indah Foundation (IIF), a non-profit organisation based in Jakarta, with a stellar reputation for its programs such as Hari Bersih Indonesia, Captain Fanplastic, Saya Pahlawan Lingkungan, and A Tree for Life, has adopted Little Care, bringing it on as one of its Education programs. IIF aims to expand Little Care’s reach to even more young people and their families in need in Yogyakarta.
Through IIF’s environmental-centred strategy, Little Care will provide quality extra-curricular education to children of low-income families at a grassroots level, with a focus on English, environmental sustainability, culture and wellness.
Angela Jelita Richardson, Co-Founder of Indonesia Indah Foundation expressed her enthusiasm about the addition of this new program. “Little Care already does fantastic work at supporting young learners in rural areas of Yogyakarta. Our objective is to build on these existing foundations, reach more children, and create even more of a positive impact that will have a lasting effect on the environment and future generations,” said Angela.
